Still Life with Bread Crumbs
In the Fall of 2014, I was lucky enough to be selected as the only Fall Intern for WUNC’s daily talk show The State of Things. While I assisted the staff with various daily tasks as well as show production, I was allowed to produce segments on my own. My first independently produced segment was with Pulitzer Prize-winner and New York Times bestselling author Anna Quindlen about her novel Still Life with Bread Crumbs.
Anna spent nearly a decade as a reporter at the New York Post and the New York Times and decided one day she wanted to be a columnist, which she did for another decade before she decided she wanted to be a novelist, which is her latest pursuit – and she was coming through North Carolina the following week to read selections of her novel at various bookstores. Our schedules didn’t align very well for the dates that she was traveling through the area, so we caught up with her over ISDN from NPR New York.
